What is Your Give-ability?

Tip

Give simply of yourself this holiday season…a smile on the outside equals a warm heart on the inside.

Tis the season to give, to spend, to shop and to party til you drop. Why not give away and spend time on things that are really meaningful…our time or random acts of kindness? Is there any reason that we should have a season or a special time for giving? To wait for the holidays to practice random acts of kindness is a bit ridiculous, isn’t it? And to demonstrate that Women on Air are not perfect yet, we have the following tale for you.

Betty Louise and I recently acknowledged the ringer of the Salvation Army bell, Veronica, outside the post office. We both independently gave her a dollar because “it was the holidays.” We then splurged for coffee and bought Veronica a hot chocolate. Now Veronica won’t be there all year round, but there will be others to replace her throughout the year.

What do you do when people are asking you for help? Do you pretend they are not there and keep walking? Do you avoid a homeless person’s eyes and then feel guilty? How about trying something different when you feel uncomfortable with people in need? Our recipe for being a giver is the following three steps:

1) Be aware of your giving nature

2) Watch for the opportunity to extend some kindness to someone you see

3) Then, just take an extra moment and DO IT….

It doesn’t matter if you give the person 50 cents or a cup of hot cocoa. Try acknowledging the person. At a minimum, look them in the eye and smile. It will surprise you…the gift you receive back. As Veronica reminded us with a big smile on her face…”You just bolstered my spirit.”

And now for the give-away as promised…stay tuned to an email inspiration from Women on Air later this week…if you are the 3rd person to email back you receive the gift of one month coaching (3-1/2 hour phone sessions) with Coach Betty (Betty Louise). Stay tuned for more give-aways…we will be giving all year long.

Thanks for tuning into our blog, and remember…Being the real YOU is the best gift you can give.
